Jessie Lemonier Former Lions Linebacker Player Dies at 25

The NFL community was deeply saddened to learn of the death of former player Jessie Lemonier, confirmed Thursday by the Detroit Lions. At just 25 years old, Lemonier had already played with three different teams in his two seasons in the NFL and had been a model teammate according to the following statement from the Lions:

We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of former Detroit Lion Jessie Lemonier. Jessie was a model teammate and wonderful young man who is gone far too soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.

After going undrafted out of Liberty in 2020, he was quickly snapped up by the Chargers one day later, before taking on roles with two other teams in total for 13 games overall during his career.

Following his short tenure in Los Angeles and a one-year stint with the Detroit Lions, Lemonier signed with the Arizona Cardinals before the 2022 season.

Though he was released by the team during training camp, Lemonier was later drafted by the XFL’s Arlington Renegades that same year.

However, he set his sights on a higher goal; the US Football League. It came as a heartbreaking shock when news broke that he suddenly passed away at the young age of 25.

The Chargers released a statement following Lemonier’s death: “Gone too soon. Our hearts are with Jessie’s family, friends, and loved ones.”

His former teams and football communities alike mourned the loss of such a talented player.
